3 Must-Have Appliances for Your RV

When you’re traveling in your RV, keeping clutter to a minimum is key. Compared to living in a brick-and-mortar home, living the RV life is even trickier because of reduced square footage and limited storage space. So, loading up your rig with all the gizmos from your regular home won’t be as helpful or efficient as you might think. In fact, traveling with too many things can hinder your productivity when it does come time to cook or clean or even to just kick back and relax for a little while. However, there’s nothing like having the some of the most important creature comforts of home at the ready while you’re on the road.

That said, three of the appliances every RVer should consider having in their rig includes:

• A coffee maker – Whether you’re a bona fide coffee aficionado or just enjoy a good cup of joe each morning, you can’t go wrong with having a coffee maker of some sort in your RV. But there are a variety of ways to make coffee, such as a traditional drip brewer, an electric kettle, or even an electric water kettle and French press set up. Consider how frequently and for how many people you plan to make coffee and how much space you’re willing to give up before you decide on a brewing method.
• A slow cooker – This appliance isn’t a space saver necessarily, but it certainly packs a powerful punch for a relatively compact kitchen gadget. With the ability to cook meals on low heat for several hours (most units can be set for up to 10 hours), the slow cooker is a busy RVer’s best friend. Simply throw some ingredients in the ceramic pot in the morning, set the controls, go about your business fishing, biking, hiking, or exploring the surrounding cities and towns, and by dinner time, you’ll have a piping hot meal ready to eat. Another related appliance to consider is the instant pot, which is essentially a slow cooker, pressure cooker, rice cooker, and other gadgets, all in one. Either of these appliances will use electricity and not propane like your RV stove would, so is a great option for when you’re hooked up to power.
• An electric skillet – Similar to the slow cooker, an electric skillet can help you avoid using propane when you don’t want to. But more importantly, it can allow you to cook up a fantastic meal in minutes, such as a stir fry, and can be used for pancakes, eggs, and other breakfast items you might normal cook on a griddle or frying pan.

Of course, the types of appliances you can’t live without might be different from this list. Perhaps your pasta maker doesn’t leave your side.
