Summer is officially here and there’s nothing better than grilling meals outside. For many RV enthusiasts, grilling is a way of life—who doesn’t love searing meat and veggies in nature?! If you’ve always wanted to grill while RV camping but haven’t taken the plunge, then follow these tips to become a grill master anywhere you go!
Pack a Grill Kit
You don’t have to travel with every single tool and gadget in the world to grill when you’re RV camping. But it is helpful to have a few core items in your kit, such as:
- A grill – You can opt for a collapsible, portable version or a full-size grill, depending on your available storage space and preferences. Choose from propane or charcoal options.
- A grill grate – Use a grate for grilling over an open flame, like a campfire.
- Cast iron pans – Cast iron is essential for high-heat cooking, making cast iron pans perfect for grilling and preparing sauces.
- Tongs – You’ll need at least two sets of tongs: one for food and one for charcoal, if you use a charcoal grill.
- Other supplies – You’ll also need a cutting board, a carving knife, charcoal briquettes or wood chunks, and a meat thermometer.
Plan Your Menu
Just like you’d do for any RV camping trip, it’s best to plan out your grilling menu in advance so you’ll have all of the food and spices required for cooking. Consider how much room you have in your RV fridge and freezer, and check if you’ll be camping near a grocery store. If so, you may be able to pick up items as needed rather than pack all your food in advance. Certain foods such as burgers and steaks are pretty straight forward and won’t need much prep. Other meals, such as smoked chicken or ribs will require more planning.
Make Your Own Rubs
Save yourself some space and leave all the cumbersome spice bottles at home. Instead, make your own rub and sauces in advance and store them in stackable containers. Customize spice mixes and rubs to your liking and use them on meat and vegetables.
