3 Ways to Become the RV Tailgating Champ of 2022

With Labor Day behind us, the summer camping season is officially over. But don’t put those grill tongs and camp chairs into storage just yet, because a different season is kicking off: college and professional football season! RVing and football go hand in hand, mostly because rigs make an excellent base camp for tailgating. And we’re here with these three easy tips to help you become the RV tailgating champion this year.

Prep Food the Night Before

Tailgating basically means eating and drinking for most of the day, so your food and beverage game needs to be executed at a high level. Prepare and marinate meats for grilling or smoking the night before. Cut and chop any vegetables and toppings as well. For example, if burgers are on your menu, shape the burger patties, peel and wash lettuce leaves, and cut slices of tomatoes and onion. Place them in airtight containers or bags before packing them in the cooler the next day.

Pack Coolers Smartly

Packing coolers is an art and a science, but even the uninitiated can pack like a pro by following a few tips. First, use at least two separate coolers—one for food and one for drinks. And plan for a 2:1 ratio of ice to items. In addition, layer your drinks and foods between layers of ice or cooler packs and put items you’ll access last on the bottom. Finally, use frozen water bottles or cooler packs in lieu of or along with ice—larger frozen surface areas tend to melt slower than ice, so you’re items will stay cooler longer.

Erect an Outdoor Handwashing Station

Tailgating in your RV can get messy. And unless you want people in and out of your rig constantly, you’ll want to create some outdoor clean up stations, especially one for hand washing. There are a few inexpensive and easy ways to make one, including buying a 2.5 gallon water jug with dispenser and placing soap and hand sanitizer nearby on a flat surface.
