4 Ways to Make Coffee in Your RV

For most people, morning just isn’t the same without a hot cup of coffee. This liquid gold is a daily source of caffeine for many, while others, who have made making and enjoying coffee a passion and an art. Wherever you fall on the coffee-loving spectrum, there’s no doubt that you’ll always want to have a fresh cup, even when you’re traveling in your RV.

Here are four easy ways you can make and enjoy coffee while you’re on the road:

Instant Coffee

Okay, stay with us. Instant coffee may conjure thoughts of awful-tasting sludge water for you, but instant coffee as a whole has come a long way in the last few decades. In fact, some specialty brands now offer instant coffee. For example, Starbucks has a line called VIA, which is sold in individually sealed packets. Instant coffee is also available in individual bags (like tea, for steeping) that are good for one cup of coffee. All you’ll need to add to the equation is your favorite mug and boiling water and you’ll have yourself a hot cuppa ready to go. This option is excellent for boondocking because it doesn’t require much work, space, or electricity..

French Press

The French press is a simple, easy to use, and compact coffee maker. And it’s one of the more attractive coffee makers out there–a simple search on social media using #vanlife will reveal as much! A French press works by steeping coarsely ground coffee in hot water. You simply add ground coffee to the bottom of the glass container of the coffee press and pour boiling water over the coffee grounds. Steeping times may vary depending on the type of coffee you’re brewing, but typically you can push the plunger down to filter out the grounds after about four minutes. Then pour the coffee into a mug and enjoy! This method of making coffee is perfect in RVs with limited storage space and/or no electrical hookups.

Percolator

Percolators are great little coffee makers you can use to brew your coffee or espresso, and are a great option for brewing coffee for more than one person at a time. All you need is a coffee percolator, coffee grounds, clean water, and a mug (or two!). Simply fill the bottom of the percolator with water and add ground coffee to the top chamber. Next, heat the percolator on your RV stove, over a camp stove, or even over a fire until the coffee is percolating.

Keurig

If “no muss, no fuss” when it comes to your morning routine, making coffee with a Keurig may be your best bet. A Keurig is a machine that, once filled with clean water and prepped with a coffee pod of your choice, can quickly and efficiently brew a hot cup of coffee. A second cup can be brewed right away with another pod.

Whichever method you choose, you can be sure that a fresh cup of joe will be ready and in your hands within a few minutes! How do you brew coffee in your RV? Let us know in the comments or contact us today!
