5 Tips for Getting Your RV Ready for the Holidays

If you’ve decided to hit the road this holiday season, there’s no better way to travel, see family and friends and enjoy the holiday season than in your RV. But just because space is limited doesn’t mean you have to forgo all the holiday traditions of home. In fact, with a little creativity and the right holiday spirit, you can start all new traditions as you cruise the open road.
  1. An RV-friendly Christmas tree – For many people, it just doesn’t feel like the holidays until the Christmas tree is up and sparkling in their living room. But with the limited space and bumps and turns of an RV journey, a Christmas tree may sound like a sure recipe for disaster. Think again. By purchasing a small tabletop tree that comes pre-lit and securing the base to the table or floor with a few pieces of ribbon or twine, you can still use your decorations from home to glam up the tree in your rig. No room for even a tiny tree? No sweat. You can use any interior wall in your RV and secure pine garlands to the surface in the shape of a Christmas tree, then decorate with lights and other treasured ornaments.
  1. Deck the dashboard – Both seasoned and novice RVers are no strangers to using all the resources at hand. That’s why the dashboard is one of the most popular spaces to spruce up for the holidays. Cotton snow, Christmas figurines and some adhesive can help you create a winter wonderland right on the dash. A small strand of icicle lights along the top of the windshield can also add some holiday fun without obstructing visibility.
  1. Stuff the stockings – The windows of your RV are a great place to string lights, hang garlands or showcase vinyl holiday decals. You can also use suction hooks on the windows to hang stockings that can be stuffed for Christmas morning. Stockings are a great way to have a place for small gifts without taking up any floor space inside your vehicle.
  1. Exterior options – Take to the open road in style by decorating the outside of your RV with lights, garlands, wreaths or decals. When traveling, be sure all items are securely attached to your rig and avoid any decorations that could obstruct visibility for you or other drivers on the road. If you park your RV for camping, you can really amp up the decorating by stringing lights along retractable awnings or setting out some holiday inflatables. Inflatable decorations are a fantastic way to make a splash without having to take up much storage space inside the RV.
  1. Gift giving – One of the biggest challenges that RVers face when traveling for the holidays is gifts. The rig is limited in space, so storing large gifts isn’t an option. Gift cards are a space-savvy alternative, or you can take advantage of direct shipping from stores so that you don’t need to store anything inside the RV. Don’t worry about bringing everything you need to wrap gifts. Again, take advantage of what stores have to offer for the holiday season and opt for gift wrapping before you request an item to be shipped.
Remember, regardless of decorations, the holidays will be great as you travel in your RV as long as you’re with family and friends. Whether you’re taking your rig across the state or across the country, the freedom of exploring and feeling the joy of the open road are truly the best gifts.
