5 Ways You Can Prepare for an Early Spring RV Trip

Early spring is an odd time of year when winter is behind us, but spring is still a few weeks away. Even though camping trips aren’t on everyone’s radar, the promise of enjoying warmer weather and outdoor activities entices many people, and thoughts of hitting the road once again in the RV can surface.

If the travel bug has hit you this time of year, here are five ways you can prepare for an early spring RV trip:

  • Check the forecast – Even if you’re traveling in Florida or other areas with similar climates, the weather can be unpredictable and change on a dime. What is a warm, sunny day can become cool and blustery, sometimes within hours. Keep an eye on the forecast not only for days that you will be on the road traveling, but also for when you’ll be camping and doing outdoor activities.
  • Pack smartly – Because early spring weather can be fickle, you need to pack items that can help you manage the differences in weather. For example, be sure to pack good hiking boots or galoshes, socks, thermal wear, and waterproof outerwear.
  • Dress appropriately – Packing smartly means you can choose layered outfits each day that can easily accommodate changes in weather. Wearing long-sleeved shirts and sweaters over t-shirts will allow you to peel off layers as temperatures rise, but also be comfortable if temps stay on the cooler side.
  • Be prepared for varying road conditions – Depending on where you’re traveling, you may encounter rainy weather or even melting snow and ice. This means that you could have to drive your rig on roads that are slick or muddy. You believe that you could drive your RV blindfolded but be sure to take extra care and time when driving on roads in poor condition.
  • Eat hearty foods – Sure, you might have overindulged during the winter holidays, but that doesn’t mean you have to eat like a bird on your camping trip. In fact, it could be beneficial for you to cook and eat hearty foods, such as soups and stews, sandwiches, and other dishes. Whether you plan to hike, bike, or simply walk through museums and other attractions, having substantial meals will help you power through your day.
