American’s have had a love affair with road travel for hundreds of years. To explore a bit of that past, the Recreational Vehicle/Manufactured Housing (RV/MH) Hall of Fame and Museum was created. Located in Elkhart, Indiana—which is known as the RV Capital of the World—The organization seeks to honor the pioneers of both the RV and manufactured homes industries and to display some of the most unique products produced throughout history.
Who Qualifies for the Hall of Fame?
The RV/MH Hall of Fame features a variety of men and women who have been active participants in any segment of the recreation vehicle or manufactured housing industries for at least 25 years. These include manufacturers, dealers, developers, suppliers and others whose work, innovations, and industry-related volunteerism have contributed to the overall good of the industry.
What is the Founder’s Hall?
The Founder’s Hall is a museum that features RV and manufactured home trailers from days gone by. The units, along with photos and memorabilia, showcase the ingenuity and skill of the people who designed, engineered, and built these unique products.
The museum lovingly displays items such as Mae West’s 1931 Chevrolet housecar, a 1974 GMC motorhome, and the 1985 Bounder prototype designed by John Crean, the founder of Fleetwood.
Can You Park Your RV at the RV/MH Hall of Fame?
Yes! The location is a part of the Harvest Hosts program, in which members can boondock at a variety of farms, wineries, and other unique locations across the country. Harvest Hosts members and museum guests can stay at the RV/MH Hall of Fame for one to two nights, without the need to make reservations or check in. There are no hookups at the property, so guests must be prepared to boondock and use their generators within reason.
