At some point in your RVing life, you’ll experience some form of noise infiltrating your RV. It might be due to a gaggle of excited children playing in a campground or a fellow RVer’s generator. And if you’re lucky, those noises will only be an issue for a short period of time. But what if they’re not? What if outside sounds interrupt your quiet time and sleep?
Fortunately, you can take steps to reduce those noises and get your sanity back. Check out these tips:
Add Soundproofing
Soundproofing your rig is a surefire way to limit noise infiltration. You can decide how thoroughly you want to sound proof, but you can start by caulking and adding weatherstripping to windows and doors. Filling in those gaps where air can leak in will help block noise, too.
Acoustic tiles or panels are another soundproofing option you can explore. Panels or tiles can be added to your RV walls or ceiling for the level of sound dampening you desire. But if you’re planning an RV renovation and want to complete a big project—or pay someone to do it—you can add materials such as acoustic foam inside the walls to improve soundproofing.
Check Campground Reviews
Before you book a stay at a campground or resort, read the reviews from other guests. Oftentimes, people will comment about noise levels and any issues they experienced during their stay. Reviews may even reveal if there are quieter sections of the campground that you may prefer to book a stay in.
Add Sound-Absorbing Items
You’d be surprised at how sound can travel inside your rig, especially if it is empty. But if you add certain items that—bonus!—primarily serve as decor, sound will be more readily absorbed.
For example:
- Hang drapes or curtains on windows
- Add pillows, throws, and blankets to lounge furniture and beds
- Place area rugs throughout the living spaces
- Add cushions on chairs and sofas
- Add blankets or foam inside bedroom cabinets to soften noise from other living areas
These are just a few ideas for soundproofing your rig and limited outside noise. Have you soundproofed your RV in some way? What approach worked best for you? Let us know in the comments or contact us today!
