Advantages of Traveling in a Mid-Size RV

For any RV enthusiast, finding the RV that best suits their needs is a must. For some, a smaller rig that is easy to maneuver and great for short weekend jaunts is ideal. For others, a big 40-foot-plus motor coach with all the bells and whistles and luxuries of home (or a really nice hotel!) is preferred. But there are still other enthusiasts for whom a mid-sized RV is just right.

Mid-size RVs may be anywhere from 20 to 33 or so feet in length and come in variety of options, including travel trailers, fifth wheels, and Class C motorized vehicles. Whether you choose a towable or a motorhome, opting for a mid-size RV comes with a number of advantages. For example, you’ll enjoy:

  • A range of budget-friendly options – Choosing a rig within the mid-size range can prove to be an economical choice, as these vehicles are often more affordable than the larger rigs. Keep in mind, though, that there are plenty of Class C motorhomes with slide outs and other add-on amenities, which can increase the cost of the vehicle.
  • A driving experience similar to what you’re already used to – Towables require a truck or SUV to pull them, so driving a rig like that will of course be familiar. Don’t forget, however, that when towing an RV, backing up and making turns requires skill and thought. Class C motorhomes are built on a truck or van chassis, so the front end of the vehicle will look like a van or truck and it will handle like those vehicles as well. Many RVers enjoy driving Class C rigs for this reason. Additionally, mid-size rigs may be somewhat easier to drive in adverse weather than large RVs.
  • Increased sleeping capacity and storage space – Compared to smaller rigs, mid-sized RVs offer more sleeping capacity, so traveling with the entire family or a few friends is comfortable and everyone can have a spot to lay their heads at night. What’s more, you’ll usually have more exterior and interior compartments in which to store items than you might in a small rig.
  • The basic necessities – In addition to increased sleeping space, a mid-sized RV will also typically come equipped with the basic comforts of home: a full kitchen with a refrigerator and stove, a bathroom, beds, and living quarters. That’s usually more than a tent camper or small towable may offer, so you can travel comfortably.
