Unfortunately, stress is part of everyday life for most people. It can be brought on by a variety of stressors, such as work, family, friends, money, and the list goes on. So, when you hit the road in your RV to escape, the stress should melt away, right?
It’s not that simple. Even travel can induce stress, especially around the holidays as you travel to spend time with family and friends. Luckily, there are several ways that you can easily reduce stress, even while traveling in your rig.
Plan Ahead
This may seem obvious but planning before a trip will save you headaches during your vacation. Things you can do before your trip include:
- Reserving sites in campgrounds or parks months in advance so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to set up when you get to your destination.
- Meal planning and doing as much prep work for planned meals as you can. Maybe you can even prepare some dishes in advance and freeze them, so you have a quick and easy meal ready to reheat on vacation. And pack plenty of snacks! Figuring out a menu before your trip will also help you avoid spending money on eating out while on the road.
- Creating (and sticking to) a packing list. Just like at home, the more things you have around you, the more stressful life can be. Limit what you pack in your rig to every day essentials and things you need for the type of trip you’re taking (e.g. fishing gear for a fishing trip) and nothing more. This way, you’ll pack only what you truly need, and you’ll keep clutter to a minimum.
Take Your Time
America is a wide and vast country and you’re surely excited to explore it all. But don’t try to do too much with too little time to do it in – take your time enjoying and exploring one or two destinations. Even if you are a full-time RVer, the concept of taking your time still applies. Trying to move too quickly, drive long distances, and do too many activities will only bring on stress and cause unhappiness when you can’t do everything.
Make Setup and Breakdown Efficient
Have you ever had to back up a 40-foot motor coach into a camp site, with every campground resident watching you? That alone is enough to send some people over the edge and is a great example of how simply arriving at and setting up camp can be a stressful event. Breaking camp down can be hectic, too. To prevent stress, find ways to make your setup and breakdown routines efficient. Complete certain tasks the day before if you can, such as packing up items you won’t need, and create checklists of tasks to complete for setup and breakdown so you don’t forget anything.
With these simple things in mind, you can have a stress-free travel experience in your RV.
