Fall RV Trips that Don’t Necessarily Involve Leaf Peeping

Autumn is a wonderful time of year where the temperatures start to cool down, the sun sets earlier each night, and holiday decorations for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and yes, even Christmas, start popping up in stores. For many RV enthusiasts, fall is the time to take a trip exclusively to see the gorgeous foliage as it changes from lush greens to vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges. But what if you don’t want to go leaf peeping? Luckily, there are plenty of other RV trips you can take that are perfect for fall. Check out destinations that:

• Are near the beach – Here in Florida, there are no shortages of beautiful beaches, so it’s easy to take a single weekend trip to be near white sands and blue waters. Now is the perfect time to visit RV campgrounds near the Atlantic Ocean or Gulf of Mexico before the influx of snowbirds begins and as the temperatures slowly begin to creep downward. Take advantage of hotspots such as Destin, Clearwater, and Siesta Key, Florida.
• Feature historical importance – New England certainly has beautiful fall foliage, but there’s a lot more to experience and see in that region, particularly for history buffs. In Boston, known as the “birthplace of the American Revolution,” you can check out the Freedom Trail. This 2.5-mile walk is an excellent trip through the past and takes visitors to 16 historical sites throughout the city, including Paul Revere House and Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, is another northern location steeped in history. Visit the historic battlefield and other significant spots that were important during the Civil War.
• Exude Southern charm – If you’re looking for quaint locales with a dose of Southern hospitality and a side of biscuits and gravy, you can’t beat traveling to Savannah, Georgia. Here you can stroll through Spanish-moss covered oaks, belly up to a bar for some oysters and a carefully crafted cocktail, and peruse museums, art galleries, and antique shops.

Fall travel to these and other non-foliage specific locations means that things are a little quieter and less crowded on the road, as well as at attractions, hotels, and restaurants, because the throngs of summer travelers have dissipated. Second, prices and rates for lodging and certain points of interest are sometimes cheaper compared to summer prices, though this will likely depend on your destination.
