Having a Washer and Dryer in Your RV: Pros and Cons

An RV is a home away from home and features the many creature comforts we’re accustomed to having in a sticks-and-bricks home. However, many rigs don’t come with washers and dryers. So, is it worth it to add these appliances to your rig?

Let’s explore some cons and pros:

Cons

• It can be expensive. – Buying these appliances for a brick and mortar home isn’t cheap, so you know the RV versions won’t be either. What’s more, certain rigs can only accommodate particular brands of washers and dryers, so you’ll have to buy products that can actually work in your RV, regardless of how much they cost.
• You may have to rejigger the interior to get a washer and dryer to fit. – Even if you have the correct brand of appliances for your rig, they may still not fit perfectly in the space you have. If that’s the case, you may have to make some temporary or permanent adjustments to the interior, such as removing doors to get the units into position. 
• They can add weight to your rig. – RVs are built with weight limits, and it’s best to not exceed those specifications, even when revamping the interior. Be sure to factor in the weight of the appliances into your rig’s overall weight limits. 

Pros

• You can’t beat the convenience. – It’s just more convenient to be able to wash and dry your clothes in your own machines whenever you need to rather than having to rely on laundromats. Having these appliances is especially helpful for families with kids. 
• You won’t have to pay per load. – Yes, the upfront cost to buy a washer and dryer for your RV can be high, but you won’t have to pay $2.00 or more for each load like you would at a laundromat. If you have kids or need to do washing frequently, those trips to the laundromat can really add up. But you won’t have to worry about that with your own washer and dryer!
• You can set it and forget it! – If you need to do a load of laundry, but still want to go for your daily hike, you can! Having your own washer and dryer in your rig means you can do laundry and not have to worry about constantly watching your items, as is necessary in a laundromat.
