How to Cut Costs While You’re RVing

If you’re a budget-conscious person, you’re likely on the lookout for the best deals and bargains everywhere you go. Taking advantage of free offerings and discounts can help you put more money toward savings, special trips and experiences, or other important things you need. If you’re an RVer, it can seem like money just flies out of your wallet without your control. So that’s why finding ways to cut travel costs is especially helpful. Here are a few ways you can save some money while you’re RVing!

Become a Member of a Camping Club

There is no shortage of camping clubs out there, so you’ll have to do the research and select the ones that make the most sense for you and your specific needs. But in general, camping clubs—such as Harvest Hosts and Thousand Trails—offer members free stays or discounts at camping locations across the country.

Get Gas Away from the Highway

Gas prices tend to be higher at stations that are located near major interstates and roadways, largely due to the convenience factor. To avoid paying higher rates, plan your gas ups at locations that are further away from high-traffic roads. Additionally, using an app like GasBuddy can help you find the best prices wherever you are located.

Book Longer Stays

Sure, a weekend getaway is a great way to relax and unwind, but staying a week or longer at a campground or resort can often mean reduced rates. That’s because weekly and monthly rates often work out to be much lower than daily rates. Plus, with remote work on the rise, it’s possible that you can still work from your location, even during a longer-term stay.

Consider State and County Campgrounds

Oftentimes, state and county-run campgrounds are cost-effective options for RVers, with rates starting as low as $10 per night. Compared to privately owned campgrounds and resorts, which start at $25 per night, staying in state and county campgrounds is a great way to cut costs.
