How to Prepare for RV Service Visit

As an RV owner, you know it’s important to keep up with maintenance on your rig. RVs with motors and even towables all require a variety of system checkups and tune ups, which, when performed faithfully, can help prevent the need for major repairs down the road.

Here are a few simple ways you can prepare to have your RV serviced.

Determine Which Services You Need

First, you’ll want to figure out which services you need. You want to have an understanding of how often you should replace certain items, such as engine oil and air filters, but also know when to clean, test, reseal, and check systems and other items in your RV. Your owner’s manual can be a great place to start your research and should have a suggested maintenance schedule that you can reference. Keep in mind which services could be covered by a warranty, if one is active on your rig.

Find a Reputable Service Center or Technician

The second step in preparing to have your rig serviced is to find a trustworthy RV service center or technician. Search online, read reviews, and select a center with a good reputation that’s conveniently located to you. Another option is to find a mobile technician who can come to you and perform maintenance. Many times a mobile tech is a good option for full time RVers who may not be able to easily move their rigs for service.

Fix it Yourself

With the influx of RVers in the past couple years, RV service centers are overwhelmed and scheduling appointments based on your schedule can be tricky. This is especially true if you only have a single day to be in a particular area to have maintenance completed. In addition, getting approved for warranty work can take a long time. With this in mind, many RVers choose to do maintenance and some repairs themselves. This approach isn’t for everyone, but many DIYers access and learn from RV forums, blogs, and YouTube videos, relying on guidance from other RVers in the community who’ve gone through similar maintenance or repairs before.
