How to Set Up Your RV as a Guest House for Visitors

It’s the holiday season, and that means lots of travel for many Americans. If your home (or general neck of the woods) tends to be where your friends and family flock to for gatherings, you’re probably no stranger to hosting some overnight guests. Sure, you can put people up in your brick-and-mortar home, but don’t rule out your RV as alternative lodging.

Here are just a few ways you can set up your RV as a guest house when friends and family come to town!

  • Set out creature comforts – Think about what items you’ve always found most helpful when staying in hotels: Is it the extra shampoo and conditioner? The bottled water? Does the promise of cookies upon your arrival always set your heart aflutter? Then do those things for your guests, too! Try to outfit your rig so that your guests have everything they need – from linens and dining ware to card games and movies – to enjoy their stay.
  • Provides snacks and treats – Even if your guests are bringing their own food or will be taking most meals inside your home, remember to stock your RV with a few snacks and treats that your guests can enjoy. Think easy choices, such as microwavable popcorn, trail mixes, fruit, cookies, and so on.
  • Give an orientation – Not everyone will be as familiar with your RV and its intricacies as you will be. For this reason, be sure to give your guests a tour, show them how the toilet actually works, how the doors open and close, and anything else they may need to know to live in your rig properly and safely.
  • Provide access to your house – Even though your guests will be staying in your RV, it will be comforting for them to know they can come inside your home if they need to. Provide a key or keypad code so they feel welcome.
