Outdoorsy Helping Hurricane Ida Victims

In Florida, we know all too well the devastation that a major hurricane can inflict upon a region and a state. And our neighbors along the Gulf Coast are in the same boat. On Sunday, August 29, Hurricane Ida made landfall in Port Fourchon, Louisiana (near New Orleans), as a Category 4 hurricane packing sustained winds of 150 miles per hour. After wreaking havoc in Louisiana and Mississippi, Ida traveled northeast to dump historic amounts of rain across that half of the country. In particular, New Jersey and New York saw extreme flooding and damage, and Ida tooks lives along her path.

With storms like these, millions of people can be without power for weeks on end or are displaced from their homes because of storm damage or limited access to water. That’s why programs like Outdoorsy’s disaster relief effort for Hurricane Ida are so important.

Outdoorsy’s Relief Program

Outdoorsy is an Austin-based RV and outdoor travel marketplace that connects RV owners with people who want to rent them. The company, with its community of more than 40,000 members, has sprung into action to provide RVs as temporary housing to those affected by the hurricane. They’ve enacted a reduced platform fee structure and are providing special rates to hurricane evacuees. Plus, RV Housing Group, a partner with Outdoorsy, is acting as a liaison with displaced victims’ insurance companies to ensure that those who need temporary housing have all vehicle rental expenses covered at no cost.

How You Can Help

If you’re an RV owner (especially one who owns a fifth wheel or travel trailer) interested in helping hurricane victims get back on their feet, here’s how you can do it:

  1. Simply head over to Outdoorsy.com/list-your-rv and create an RV listing.
  2. Fill out the temporary housing intake form.
  3. If you’re already a member of Outdoorsy and have a listing currently on the site, you just need to fill out the housing intake form to ensure your rig is eligible for the program.

You could join the more than 100 RV owners from the Outdoorsy community who have already committed to donating their rigs for the cause.
