Winter is Coming…Time to Prepare Your RV for the Months Ahead

As the winter months are approaching, it does not mean that you have to put a stop to the camping fun. There are a few things that you should go over to ensure the longevity of your RV and soon you’ll be able to enjoy all the snowy views that nature has to offer.

Check Your Corners

It is always best to take a look around the inside and out of your RV to ensure there are no leaks or extra spots that need some caulking. Around windows, paneling, and corners are particular places that may need some extra attention.

To do this, first you will have to pull up the old caulking. This can be done by using a caulking removal spatula or just using a blade. Take extra precaution around blades as they are sharp and can lead to harm if not used properly. Another tip to remember is to make certain that you are using an RV specified caulk as there is a difference between ones you use on your rig, compared to ones you use on your home or boat.

Don’t Let it Freeze!

Along with caulking, water is another important part of your camping needs. Freezing water can be a problem when on the road, so here is a helpful tip for ensuring your water is available during your trip.

  • Make sure that your black water tank is emptied before you set and out and again immediately once arriving home. It is best to wrap your sewer hose in insulated plumbing tape or foam insulation to keep your lines from freezing over when traveling. When parked at campsites, it is always best to just use the bathrooms available if the situation of freezing does occur.

All Set!

Now that you’re ready for winter, it is best to stay warm and pack extra clothes and food in case of emergency situations. Most importantly, stay safe on the roads so that you’ll be able to enjoy all the views that Mother Nature has to offer. Have fun, enjoy those fireflies, many adventures, and cozy nights by the fire.
