Roadtrip Apps You Didn’t Know You Needed

The RV lifestyle – whether you rent or own – is all about the journey. And that journey is a road trip. Regardless of your destination, you’ll need to travel through towns and cities, grab a bite to eat, gas your rig up, and maybe stop for some shopping.

You’ll be doing these things anyway, so why not make getting to your destination even more enjoyable with a road trip app? Apps and websites dedicated to road tripping allow you to map out your route and help you discover many great stops along the way.

Ready to become a road trip master? Check out these apps:

RVTripWizard

This app was created specifically for RV road warriors! It is a paid, web-based service so you’ll pay $39 per year but won’t need to install anything. And for many users, the cost is definitely worth it. RVTripWizard brings amazing features to the table, including the ability to set time and distance limits on your driving times. You can search for and include in your trip planning more than 17,000 campgrounds of all affiliations and about 57,000 points of interest. The visual RV trip planner will lay out your route visually and point out gas stations, campgrounds, and more along the way.

Roadtrippers

Roadtrippers is an app with an extensive database of interesting places, travel routes, and off-the-beaten-path locations. The app has helped plan more than 25 million road trips to date. Users love Roadtripper for its ease of use and the ability to plan a route from point A to point B and find unique stops along the route. You can set a specific distance you’re willing to travel away from your route to find the unique stops. Plus, the app seamlessly integrates turn-by-turn navigation, fuel cost estimation, and accommodations booking. Granted, if you’re traveling in your rig, you may not need a hotel, but it’s a helpful feature nevertheless.

Roadtrippers also offers a ton of interesting free travel guides and route suggestions that make the user experience that much more enjoyable. The app is always free, but there is a Plus option which costs $6.99 per month, or a flat $29.99 per year.

FreeRoam

This app was created by a non-profit with the goal of connecting campers to nature in a sustainable way while promoting education, community building, and monetary contribution to Bureau of Land Management lands. You can plan a route, search for campsites, and even interact with other users in forums. There are many helpful guides and how-tos that you can access as well. As an entirely free platform, FreeRoam is an excellent, easy-to-use tool for any road trip enthusiast.
