RV Trends to Look Out for in 2023

With a new year on the horizon, it’s time to take a look at some of the upcoming RV industry trends we can expect to see throughout 2023:

Cheaper Trips

Inflation rose uncontrollably this year, and despite slowing down some, the rate is still high. As a result, everyday basics like food and gas are more expensive than they’ve been in recent years. But this isn’t going to stop RVers who are eager to travel. According to RVShare’s 2023 travel trend report, about 98% of American RVers won’t cancel their travel plans because of soaring inflation rates but will be more thrifty instead. For example, respondents said they’ll cook more of their own meals instead of going out to eat and will travel during off-season times to save even more money.

An Increase in RV Rentals

Renting an RV is an easy way for travelers to experience the RV lifestyle without taking on the full commitment of RV ownership. Oftentimes, RVs can be delivered and set up at campgrounds for travelers, eliminating some of the trickiest aspects of RV travel for first-timers–driving, parking, and campsite set up. In addition, RV owners will be more likely to rent their RVs out to others in the upcoming year.

A Decrease in RV Owner Age

No longer a retiree’s game, the love of RVing has expanded mightily into other demographics. In fact, 47% of younger travelers are eager to take an RV trip in the next 12 months according to data contributed by RVshare. Thanks to work from home capabilities, unlimited paid time off, and other flexible work-life balance approaches that many companies have implemented since 2020, young people and their families are taking advantage of being able to work from any location in RVs. And that trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

Improved Campsites and Campgrounds

The demand for campsites and campgrounds has grown exponentially over the past three years, and owners are heeding the demands of their customer base. According to a Campground Owner & Manager Survey conducted by Woodall’s Campground Magazine and sponsored by the RV Industry Association, seven out of 10 large and mid-sized campgrounds are planning improvements that include adding more on-site recreation opportunities, full RV hook-ups, and even cabins.

We’re excited to see that the love of RVing is continuing to reach younger demographics and that people and campground owners are looking for creative ways to make RV travel possible and fun for all in 2023.
