RVshare Introduces “Turn in Your Tent” Campaign to Encourage RVing

The year 2020 saw a major uptick in camping and the purchase of RVs. And the camping trend isn’t slowing down! People are camping in tents, RVs, cabins, and more. But a small survey conducted by Wakefield found that 62% of respondents who had experience with RV and tent camping preferred RV camping.

Thus, to encourage people to switch over to the RV lifestyle during this National Camping Month of June, RVshare—a peer-to-peer RV rental platform—has launched the “Turn in Your Tent” campaign. People can mail in their gently used tent and will receive a $250 credit toward renting an RV on RVshare.

Try an RV, Help a Good Cause

To put the tent trade-in extravaganza to work for good, RVshare has teamed up with Gear Forward, an organization working to outfit the next generation of adventurers with everything they need to enjoy and explore the great outdoors. Through the collection of gently used camping gear and donations from retailers and gear manufacturers, Gear Forward benefits other outdoor-focused non-profit organizations (think Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and others) to get donated gear to the kids who need it.

How Does it Work?

Anyone with a gently used tent can submit their information on RVshare and receive a prepaid shipping label. The tent can be packaged up and dropped off at a UPS location, where it will be shipped to Gear Forward. Once Gear Forward receives the tent, a $250 credit for an RV rental and instructions will be sent via email.

RVs vs. Tents

As many RV enthusiasts can tell you, RVs offer a variety of benefits that tents can’t match. For example, RVs:

  • Have mattresses that become comfortable beds to sleep the night away, whereas tent campers must use blow-up mattresses or pads and sleeping bags as bedding
  • Have bathrooms and running water, whereas tent camping requires trips to a campground bathroom, outhouse, or even the woods!
  • Are climate controlled, whereas tents have no cooling or heating capabilities built in.
  • Offer superior protection from wind, rain, and other elements compared to tents
