THOR to Integrate Starlink’s Internet System on Select RVs

The world’s largest RV manufacturer, THOR Industries, recently announced that it will begin adding SpaceX’s Starlink to certain RVs in its lineup. The THOR family of companies are the first RV original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to work directly with Starlink to create this integration.

What is Starlink?

Starlink is a high-speed internet solution for people around the world, but was created mostly to give internet access to remote areas with typically poor connection. The company has satellites positioned in low-Earth orbit at an altitude of 550 kilometers, which is about 65 times closer than conventional satellites are situated. As a result, Starlink offers far lower latency and higher transmission speeds for users compared to traditional internet models. In 2022, SpaceX announced the creation of Starlink for RVs, which allows for these flat disc-like units to lie flat and produce high-speed, low-latency internet, even while in motion on land.

Why is This Important?

The RV industry exploded in the past few years, prompted by the pandemic, stay-at-home orders, and people’s desire for social distancing while still being able to travel. In addition, as many companies have shifted to offer work-from-home options and flexible time off, this frees up young families and working professionals to travel and work from the road. As a result, these groups have purchased RVs in droves but need reliable internet to work, whether they’re parked in a resort near a major metropolis or boondocking on BLM land in the desert. Starlink integrated into THOR’s RVs can now make access to high-speed internet easier.

On Which RVs Will Starlink Be Available?

To begin, Starlink units will initially be available as optional equipment in certain motorized RVs manufactured by Airstream, Entegra Coach, Jayco and Tiffin, which are four companies under the THOR brand. All Starlinks that are factory installed on these RVs will be eligible for a one-month service credit after the initial month of activation.
