Top RV Destinations in Florida

As the new vacation season gets underway, RV enthusiasts throughout the country are busy planning their adventures for the upcoming months. The Sunshine State has always been one of the nation’s top RV destinations due to its warm climate, stretches of beaches, water sports, and beautiful nature landscapes perfect for camping and exploring. If you’re in the process of getting your spring and summer itineraries on the books, check out these RV- friendly destinations in Florida.
St. Augustine – As the oldest city in Florida and in the country, St. Augustine offers a host of incredible activities for RVers who want to explore things like history, Spanish colonial architecture, and gorgeous beaches. Be sure to check out St. Augustine Beach, Crescent Beach, Anastasia State Park’s wildlife preserve, and the historical Castillo de San Marcos 17th century fortress. Campgrounds and RV parks within ten minutes of downtown abound.
Florida Caverns State Park – For a truly unique experience and immersion in natural history, take your rig and explore Florida Caverns State Park in the Florida Panhandle near Marianna. Cave tours feature limestone stalactites, stalagmites, and other natural wonders. Nearby Chipola River and Blue Hole spring offer great fishing and boating. RVs are welcome in the park, but camping sites fill up fast so reserve early.
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort – Whether you’re taking an RV trip with the entire family or it’s just you and a spouse, Orlando offers fun for all ages. A great place to camp is the Fort Wilderness Resort where you can take advantage of resort-style activities while still enjoying the great outdoors. Full hook-up campsites are available, as well as tent or pop-up campsites. Enjoy 750 acres of wildlife, pine forests, beautiful trails, pony rides, pools, fireworks, and boat rentals. This isn’t exactly dry camping, but there’s nothing wrong with a little luxury in the wild.
The Florida Keys – No RV trek through Florida would be complete without visiting the string of incredible tropical islands known as the Florida Keys. These islands stretch more than 100 miles off the coast and offer some prime camping spots for RV enthusiasts. Access the inhabited islands via the Overseas Highway and make your first stop Bahia Honda State Park at mile 37 along US-1. Beaches, trails, kayaking, and wildlife abound and Key West is just a 45-minute drive away. Spots fill up quickly so book RV sites as far in advance as possible.
Everglades National Park – On your way to or from the Keys, be sure to take your RV to the Everglades National Park in Homestead, Florida. Here, you’ll be able to experience the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. Frontcountry camping that is RV-accessible can be enjoyed at the Long Pine Key Campground (reservations not accepted; 108 drive-up sites) and the Flamingo Campground (reservations accepted; 234 drive-up sites). No hook-ups, bathrooms (showers available), or cell phone reception is available at either campground, but you’ll hardly miss these amenities when you’re surrounded by the best showcase of natural wonders that the Sunshine State has to offer.
