What is the Kevin Phillips Scholarship?

The Kevin Phillips Scholarship is a scholarship offered by the RV Technical Institute. It covers Level 1 and Level 2 technician training and certification for applicants who have never worked in the RV industry before.

Kevin Phillips was a respected leader who worked within the industry, the RV Industry Association, and the RV Technical Institute for many years. He was a proponent of continual learning and believed in the value of vocational training as a different path for those who don’t necessarily want to follow the traditional path of going to college. 

Who Can Apply?

Applicants can be recent high school graduates, as well people who have recently left the military or who tried college and realized it wasn’t for them. The scholarship is geared toward this population because the RV Technical Institute understands that training costs and fees required to learn a trade often pose hurdles and are sometimes not possible for people to pay. This scholarship helps break down those financial hurdles, attracting new people to the RV technician field and hopefully increasing the pool of trained and qualified RV technicians in this country.

What Does an RV Technician Do?

An RV technician is a trained professional who can repair, test, install, and replace parts in an recreational vehicle. RV techs must often be familiar with and repair a variety of systems and components in a rig, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and audio visual systems. Some may even do carpentry work when required.  

RV technicians are in high demand these days, particularly as the industry continues to grow and attract new RV enthusiasts. 

What is the Deadline?

The deadline to apply for the Kevin Phillips scholarship is Tuesday, January 31, 2023. But don’t worry—applications for this scholarship are accepted every three months throughout the year. If you miss this window, you can apply and will in April, July, or October.
