What is the KOA “Get Out There” Grant?

In the world of camping and RVing, Kampgrounds of America (KOA) is a well-known establishment. With more than 500 locations across North America and in operation since 1962, KOA’s main goal has always been to connect people to the outdoors and with each other. 

So, it’s no wonder that they’ve created a “Get Out There” grant program. The program encourages people to think about their dream or bucket-list adventure; a trip that they’ve only been able to imagine and has been beyond their reach. We’re talking about the type of trip that would make for amazing memories! Then, with this trip-of-a-lifetime in mind, people can apply for the grant, describing in written word their ideal adventure to the KOA judging panel. When an application is selected, the winner will be awarded a grant of $1,000 to $5,000 to help fund the trip. 

How Does It Work?

First, you need to fill out the application for the “Get Out There” grant on the KOA website, or post about your dream adventure on Instagram using the #GetOutThereKOA hashtag. Then you wait to hear back from the judging panel. As submissions roll in, the panel will be reviewing them and ensuring each submission meets the outlined criteria. If you’re selected as winner, you will be notified of your grant award and will have one calendar year to complete your adventure. 

Keep in mind that certain conditions are required for application, including that applicants must be 18 years or older and be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or Canada, among others that may be unique to your adventure.

So, why should you consider applying for this grant?

1. While KOA is known for its campgrounds and resorts that cater to RVers, tent campers, even those that prefer staying in cabins, your dream adventure does not need to involve camping. It just needs to be something that gets you outdoors. 
2. Your adventure can be a solo affair or can involve a group of family or friends, but should be the type of trip that creates memories. Have you always wanted to take your family on an epic cross-country roadtrip in an RV? Or reunite with college friends for a hiking adventure? This could be your chance.
3. As long as your ideal trip would be located in the U.S. or Canada, you’re good to go!
4. Because the money awarded is a grant, you don’t have to pay it back, but the funds will be distributed strictly to execute your dream trip. 
5. KOA will send a small team of videographers with you on your adventure and your story will be featured across KOA’s website and social media accounts.
