What is THOR Industries’ LEAP Program?

THOR Industries, the RV manufacturer responsible for Airstream, Integra, Jayco, and Tiffin lines of recreational vehicles, offers something called the LEAP program.  LEAP—which stands for Learn, Engage, Achieve, Perform—is available to local school districts in Elkhart County, Indiana, where THOR’s headquarters are located. It is a community outreach initiative that introduces students of varying ages to elements of the RV business.

LEAP has three curriculum levels for students in fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school. The students have an opportunity to interact and speak with THOR Industries associates, who teach them about all aspects of the RV industry and business, including product design, business management, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and more.

Here’s a look at what each curriculum in the LEAP program involves:

Fifth Grade Students

Students in the fifth grade LEAP program are introduced to the basics of the RV industry and learn about THOR’s role in their community. Throughout the program, the students have the opportunity to tour RVs, learn leadership skills from THOR associates, and flex their creative muscles by building Lego RVs together.

Eighth Grade Students

Students in the eighth grade LEAP program are introduced to the concepts of lean manufacturing and assembly line productions. These allow for the students to be involved in problem-solving activities while they work on assigned projects. This real-world and team building experience builds skills and enhances the students’ glimpse into RV-related career pathways.

High School Students

Students in the high school LEAP program are uniquely positioned to work with THOR’s subsidiaries and prepare themselves for a sales, management, or marketing career in the RV industry.

The LEAP program launched in 2017 and since then, THOR has seen tremendous involvement from the local schools and administrators, allowing the program to reach and teach nearly 7,000 students so far.
