What Makes an RV Campground Great?

Anyone with an RV knows that a great campsite is a true treasure to find. It’s the type of find that will have campers come back year after year.

But what is the appeal? What makes a great site at an RV campground?

Large, private campsites

Spacious campsites are important to RVers, regardless of a rig’s size. If you want to be able to open your awning and expand pop-outs without fear of hitting the RV next to you, then having ample space at your campsite is key. A spacious site can also increase privacy, a benefit most people desire when camping. The last thing you want is to be able to see into the next camper’s windows because they’ll likely see you, too. Ultimately, campsites that are spaced out and have privacy features such as shrubs and trees in place are ideal.

Concrete pads at campsites

Concrete pads are another sought-after feature at a campsite. This allows RVers to park and properly level their rigs on solid ground instead of dirt or gravel.

Useful amenities

For RVers, amenities can make or break how they feel about a campground. A campground that has only one dumping station, for example, can make for long lines and wasted time. So finding a campground or resort with excellent amenities is important.

Some of the most desired perks include:

  1. WiFi – With many full-timers and long-term vacationers working from the road, a campground with a solid WiFi signal is one of the most coveted amenities.
  2. Multiple dump sites – Dumping grey and black water tanks upon checkout won’t take an eternity when a campground has multiple dump stations for guests.
  3. Playgrounds for kids – A place for kids to romp, play, and burn off excess energy is a highly desired amenity for families with children.
  4. Laundry facilities – Even on vacation, laundry still needs to be done. And for many RVers, the ability to do laundry on-site while camping is a huge plus.
  5. Dog-friendly areas – Many RVers travel with pets. Campgrounds that offer a dog run or dog park get two paws up from family pooches.
  6. Activities – Whether it’s potlucks or game nights, movies or live music, an abundance of activities at a campground provide guests with fun opportunities to spend time with family and make new friends with other campers.

A great location

Another aspect that makes a campground great is a perfect location. Of course, not every RV park will be nestled among majestic mountains or along the seashore, but those locations sure do provide beautiful scenery to enjoy. In addition, RVers appreciate parks located near attractions or landmarks, making it easy to sightsee and explore the local area.

Before you book any site, it’s best to do your research. Call the campgrounds on your list and ask them questions about the features and amenities that are important to you.
